This has been my favorite poem from my poetry class

Chess

Because we were friends and sometimes loved each other,
perhaps to add one more tie
to the many that already bound us,
we decided to play games of the mind.

We set up a board between us;
equally divided into pieces, values,
and possible moves.
We learned the rules, we swore to respect them,
and the match began.

We've been sitting here for centuries, meditating
ferociously
how to deal the one last blow that will finally
annihilate the other one forever.

i don't have the internet at home yet so i'm in a coffeeshop using their server with my wireless card. ;) my roommate should have our wireless network up and running this week.

okay so i finally have my schedule figured out & secured and have ended up with a pretty amazing schedule in spite of all the insanity. 3 of the 4 classes I'm taking I need in order to graduate so thank god this is not going to be a wasted semester.

T, TH

(9:30-10:45)English 204 - Introduction to Creative Writing: Creative Non-fiction
this is the only class i could get in my major this semester but it's the one class i really wanted. in order to graduate you have to take a beginning and advanced course in poetry, non-fiction or fiction. i crashed both this class and the poetry class, but since i was able to get this class i won't need the poetry class which is just as well because i was tuning my professor out the secnd day of class - he was so boring. my nonfiction professor is warm and compassionate. over the years i've found that my favorite type of writing is non-fiction (duh, look at livejournal! we all love talking about ourselves.); it fulfills me more. this is great news for truth, the website i created over two years ago with vignettes about my own memories. wtf.nu is down at the moment but when it gets back up, i'll have a ton of new material for truth. at the end of the semester we have to turn a portfolio in as well. today during a writing exercise i knocked out a (rough) piece that i think will be perfect after much revision. it's going to be a terrifying class to take because since it's non-fiction, the truth is all i have to rely on.

(11:00-12:15)Women's Studies 420: U.S. Women of Color
pretty self-explanatory. my professor is a bit scatterbrained and has yet to be on time, but the class seems like it's going to be simple enough. it's been pretty interesting so far. it relies on discussions and group work a lot. we picked our groups toay in accordance to where we live and the 3 girls in my group seem really nice. it's funny because we all have really different majors: human development, business, nursing, creative writing. i instantly liked the nursing major; maybe i'll make a friend or two from this class.

(12:30-1:45)Women's Studies 318: Mothers & Daughters
a class which examines the relationship between, well...mothers and daughters! we're going to be studying all different cultures, the historical relationship, tensions among mothers and daughters, childrearing choices, etc...this is the class which doesn't count for graduation but it's interesting as hell.

(2:00-3:15)History 309: Men & Masculinity
i crashed this class on thursday after realizing that it would fit right into my schedule and was qualified as an upper level course needed to graduate. i was pleasantly surprised when the discussion turned out to be interesting. it's nice because it seems like throughout college i've had many women's courses but never a course that dealt with men. for once there are way more men than women in the class and i think it's going to teach me a lot abut men and the pressures they struggle with. after two women's studies classes in a row, it's an ironic change of pace.

so there's my schedule. my classes are interesting, my apartment is looking to be fabulous and i'm just happy about how everything seems to be turning out. i don't have very many friends in LB yet but it's nice to know that cat, abby, adrienne and nicole are scattered all throughout LA. my friends all want to come up because...long beach is FUN and temecula isn't, so i have a feeling they'll be making a lot of trips. and once i find a starbucks to transfer to i'll be busy with work as well as school. i've had all of these errands to do so i've been keeping busy and i'll be going home on weekends the first few weeks in order to see my mom and my animals. once i start working, weekend trips will be out.

ok so i need to do some more reading, go to the grocery store and find a home depot. i'm painting my bedroom tomorrow and val is coming up to help. being a full time student while going only 2 days a week kind of rocks. i'm going to relish it because i doubt my schedule will ever work out this way again.

oh yeah. and have i mentioned that i'm seeing hanson THREE TIMES over the course of two days? with (almost)all of my girls. tahnie is flying out!!!! ann, are you going to come??? linds, it will not be the same without you. remember when you, cat and i got those milkshakes afterwards?

so.

tell me something about myself - something you like, please. i won't pretend to want criticism.

then, tell me something about yourself. a secret, a fear, a crush, a story. anything.

the catch? do it anonymously.

this was inspired by a post from letterbox.

P.S. - this is a post which can now be anonymous. thanks to the previous non-anonymous comments. *smile*

my friends list has been polished. if i've made a mistake, please let me know. if you were, the reasons you were taken off the list are:

001.) some of you have since taken on new journals and i got rid of the old ones.

002.) you never update and therefore i have no idea what's going on in your life and feel that i have no business sharing my life with you (friendship is a two way street after all)

003.) i still don't know you all that well

004.) and most importantly (and i have no shame in admitting this) i've gotten the strong impression that you don't even read my journal, i'm merely another person to add to the friends list. believe it or not, that's important to me. like i said, if i've made a mistake, let me know. a lot of shit is going on in my life and i just feel the need for closer quarters right now. it's not about being exclusive, at all. if you actually enjoy reading my journal, let me know. it's not that interesting, i know.

this public entry will be gone in 72 hours.

since this is a friends-only journal the following will be the only unlocked entry. please leave a comment if you'd like to be added; i'm always looking for new journals to read, so don't be shy if i barely know you.
